DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Our 2008 AWWA Hawaii Section Annual Conference at the Pacific Beach Hotel is just around the corner. Roy Silva, Trustee-At-Large/ Conference Chair/ Workshop Chair and the many volunteers serving on the conference committee are working extremely hard to bring a fulfilling 34th annual conference for you to experience and enjoy. We will be joined by AWWA’s incoming President-Elect Craig Woolard speaking on this year’s theme, “Only Tap Water Delivers”. We look forward to seeing all of you there in support of your section’s efforts in bringing together a top notch group of water professionals.

A few other notes:

The Hawaii Section has again received the Club Seven Award for the section that achieved the highest percent increase in members within its division during 2007. Our section had an 11.73% increase in new members from the previous year. Congratulations to Eddie Doi, Membership Chair, and all section members who helped spread the word and encouraged others to join us in promoting the interests of safe drinking water.

Join the Hawaii contingent as we make our annual trek to AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) to be held June 8 – 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. This annual event provides an excellent opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and events ranging from workshops to professional sessions to facility tours to the ever expanding exposition. Also, if you are interested in serving on a committee at the Association level, ACE offers an excellent opportunity for you to sit and listen in on the various committees that meet annually at ACE.

As the Hawaii Section looks towards planning future activities, I encourage you to join other section volunteers participating on our various committees. We will always accommodate anyone interested in taking a more active role in our section activities. If you are interested, please contact any of the section officers, trustees or committee chairs and find out how you can become involved.
