Highlights of May 24 (Th), 2007
Hawaii Convention Center and Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu

Thursday's morning session was moderated by Mike Street, AWWA Hawaii Section Water Reuse Committee Chair. Speakers included Elisa Speranza of CH2M Hill, Robert Boesch of the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture, Stuart Yamada of the Hawaii State Department of Health, and D. Kapua Sproat of the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law.

AWWA Hawaii Section At-Large Trustee Garret Matsunami served as Master of Ceramonies for the Awards Luncheon. Congratulations to AWWA Hawaii Section Scholarship Recipients Alladin El-Kadi, son of AWWA member Dr. Aly I El-Kadi, and Logan Lee, son of AWWA member Doug Lee.

Congratulations to AWWA Hawaii Section Director Susan Uyesugi, who was awarded the Special Recognition Award, and to Sheryl Suzuki, who was award the Section Outstanding Member Award. Congratulations also goes to the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, who were award a AWWA Safety Award.

The 21st Annual Pipe Tapping Contest was held on the rooftop level of the Hawaii Convention Center. The men’s division was won by the defending Hawaii Section Champions, The Department of Water Supply, Hawaii County. The women’s division was taken by first time winners, the County of Kauai, Department of Water.

The winning men’s team members include Ted Lindsey, Norris Gonsalves, Roy Miyazaki, and Leonard Midallia. The winning women’s team members include Norma Imada, Margie Loo, Leila Kamakele, and Gloria Rafael. Congratulations to all the contestants for their efforts and thank you for a very exciting contest.

The luncheon guest speaker was Gwen Fujie of Gwen Fujie Keynotes & Seminars, who gave a talk entitled Generations at Work: Colliding or Collaborating?
