Highlights of May 23 (Wed), 2007
Hawaii Convention Center and Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu

The 33rd Annual AWWA Hawaii Section Conference began Wednesday morning with the Opening General Session. Serving as the morning session moderator, AWWA Hawaii Section Operators Training Committee Chair Jeff Pearson called the conference to order and Hawaii Section Chair Jon Muraoka delivered the welcome address. AWWA President Terry Rolan then delivered the keynote address.

The 23rd Annual "Ono Water Contest" was held during lunch at the Ala Moana Hotel. Mike Victorino, Maui County Councilman and former Maui County Water Board Member, emceed the contest. Mike entertained the audience with his unique blend of local humor.

This year's water system category was Military, Federal, State, and large institutions. Water samples came from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (Big Island), Haleakala National Park (Maui), Kamehameha Schools - Kapalama campus (Oahu), Punahou School (Oahu), U.S. Army - Schofield Shaft (Oahu), U.S. Navy - Waiawa Shaft (Oahu), and the State Department of Land and Natural Resources - Polihale State Park (Kauai). This year's winners were:

Since 1985, this spirited sampling event has attracted the interest of hundreds of followers and celebrity judges, calling attention to the qualities of drinking water we often take for granted - a clear, clean appearance and most importantly, a pleasing, healthful taste.

Attendees then spent the afternoon in one of three concurrent sessions. The day was capped by the ever-popular Meet and Greet event sponsored by Manufacturers, with Exhibits Chair Rich Hopkins serving as Master of Ceremonies.
