2006 GEORGE WARREN FULLER AWARDEE

The 2006 Hawaii Section Fuller Awardee is Mr. Ivan K. Nakatsuka. In 1976 Ivan earned a master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii. He earned his professional engineering registration from the University of Hawaii in 1979 and has been a practicing environmental engineer at Austin, Tustumi & Associates, Inc. in Honolulu ever since. As Chief Environmental Engineer, he has completed many water-related projects and has become knowledgeable in the application of new technologies to solve today's water and environmental problems. Currently, Ivan's specialty is in the application of microfiltration membrane technology to produce potable water.

Throughout his career, Ivan has been an active member in professional organizations such as American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Water Environment Federation (WEF) - Past President and Current National Director of Hawaii Section, but he has been especially involved with the American Water Works Association (AWWA). In our organization, he has served in nearly all leadership capacities to include Section Chair, Conference Chair, Trustee, and Education/Scholarship Chair. In recognition of his leadership skills, he received the AWWA Special Recognition Award in 1990 and the AWWA Outstanding Section Member Award in 1991.

Congratulations to Ivan for his outstanding contributions to the drinking water field and to the AWWA Hawaii Section.

2006 OUTSTANDING SECTION MEMBER AWARDEE

The Outstanding Section Member Award is presented to a member who through his/her interest and demonstrated activity has contributed significantly to the progress and well-being of the AWWA Hawaii Section, but who has not otherwise previously been recognized. This year's recipient is Ms. Dawn Barsana.

Dawn has served as the At-Large Trustee for the Annual Conference Council and as the Annual Conference Chair for the past two years. She has worked tirelessly to plan and organize the last two conferences. Congratulations to Dawn for her outstanding contributions to the AWWA Hawaii Section.

2006 SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDEE

The Special Recognition Award is to recognize members who have untiringly served the Section in some capacity during the past year. The recipient of the 2006 Special Recognition Award is Lianna Chang, Co-Chair of the AWWA Hawaii Section Young Professionals committee. Lianna has been the YP Chair for the past 2 years and has infused enthusiasm into the association by organizing events for younger members, such as brown bag sessions, field trips, and community outreach activities such as storm drain stenciling and stream cleanups. Congratulations to Lianna for her outstanding contributions to the AWWA Hawaii Section.

2006 AWWA GOLD WATER DROP AWARDEE

Congratulations to George Yuen, recipient of the Gold Water Drop Award for 50 years of continuous membership.

2006 AWWA LIFE MEMBERS

A total of nine AWWA Hawaii members were recognized with Life Memberships at the 2006 AWWA Hawaii Section Conference. This award recognizes people who have been a member of AWWA for 30 years. This year's recipients include Robert Akinaka, Royce Fukunaga, Paul Hirota, Charlotte Kaui, Calvin Kim, Hans Krock, Manabu Tagamori, Ronald Wada, and Mel Waki.
