Highlights of May 12 (Thursday), 2005 (Cont.)
Renaissance Ilikai Hotel, Waikiki

During the awards luncheon, two AWWA Hawaii Section Scholarships were awarded. The first recipient is Scott Shiraishi, son of Elmer and Lorrie Shiraishi. Scott is currently a senior at Hawaii Baptist Academy and will be entering the University of Hawaii at Manoa this coming fall, majoring in civil engineering. The second recipient is Carol Matasci, daughter of Ray and Anne Matasci. Carol is currently a senior at Baldwin High School on Maui and will be attending the University of Notre Dame this fall, where she will be majoring in the physical sciences. Outstanding AWWA Hawaii Section Member plaques went to Julie McKee, AWWA Hawaii Section Newsletter Chair, and Ross Kaneko, former AWWA Hawaii Section Officer and unofficial Hawaii Section "Jack-of-All-Trades".

After the afternoon sessions, the day ended with the conference banquet. Woodie Muirhead graciously served again as the banquet master of ceremonies. AWWA Immediate Past-President Marlay Price and his wife Gina were presented a gift from the Hawaii Section. Also attending the banquet were AWWA President Katie McCain and her husband Mike, who were on their way back to the states from Australia. Congratulations to Dr. L. Stephen Lau, who was awarded AWWA life membership. Marlay then installed the new section officers: Chair Walter Hager, Vice-Chair Jon Muraoka, Secretary Jo-Ann Taniguchi, Treasurer Rick Sumada, Director Susan Uyesugi, BWS Trustee Kathryn Matayoshi, Water Utility Trustee Keith Okamoto, Consultant Trustee Jason Kage, Manufacturer/ Supplier Trustee Wes Saki, Government Trustee Ed Tschupp, At-Large Trustee (Conference) Dawn Barsana, At-Large Trustee (Administrative and Policy Council) Elson Gushiken, and Immediate Past Chair Paul "Scotty" Scott. Past Fuller awardees were then called to the stage to be recognized. All of the past Fuller awardees then proceeded back onto the floor to surround the 2005 awardee: Paul Seitz, Division Head of the County of Maui Department of Water Supply, Water Treatment Plant Operations.
